Parents will need to purchase a one year subscription to the online program which will allow students to watch instructional videos at home and complete assignments. The online program provides students with the opportunity to review lessons at home; even if a particular problem isn't solved during class, the student still can see exactly how to solve it. Weekly class time is used for hands-on activities, an interactive lecture, and practice learning new concepts. Students will keep a math notebook and turn in some classwork for grades. Homework grades are self reported. Tests are completed at home and proctored by parents. Requirements: Teaching Textbook Pre-Algebra 4.0 online access (https://www.teachingtextbooks.com/pre-algebra-version4.html) A small $10 supply fee each semester covers printing and manipulatives used in class.

Leadership Development

Teacher: Maureen Altman

We want our young people to grow up confident in who they are and how they can be positive influencers in their worlds. Leadership skills allow our young people to have control of their lives and the ability to make things happen. Leadership helps young people solve problems creatively, work in a team, and work collaboratively with others. Leadership gives young people many opportunities to develop responsibility. This class will start to teach these skills through discussion, practical exercises and leading events within the Compass Community. This class is for students in 7-9th who are already taking some level of responsibility for themselves and are ready to take the next step. This class may also be appropriate for older students who would like to participate in the Student Council but have no experience of leadership at this point.
Student Council
Grades 10-12
$20/month
Teacher: Kristy Dennis

In this class, students will expand their skills in communication, being more open, being respectful of others' opinions, and being comfortable disagreeing when necessary. We want them to be creative and have a vision for Compass, roll up their sleeves to do the work and inspire the wider student body to get involved. Through team work and cooperation, students will have multiple opportunities to make genuine decisions, create action plans, set deadlines, and be held accountable. This class is an excellent way for students to gain real leadership skills, see personal growth, and have an impact on the community of students they serve. It will be lively, challenging, and by the end of the year our students will be able to see the tangible impact that they have had on our student community, while recognizing the growth in themselves. **Application required - please email dennisfam2000@gmail.com for an application. Students who do not submit an application by June 1 or who are not accepted into student council will be automatically placed in Leadership Development
Adulting 101
Grades 9-12
$25/month
Teacher: Sarah Craig

Let’s face it, the day-to-day activities that are necessary to keep our lives running smoothly don’t always come naturally. There’s a mountain of practical skills involved in what we affectionately call adulting and it can seem daunting. This fun, interactive class will give you the chance to experience everything from changing a tire to basic finance and housekeeping. Each week we’ll look at a different aspect of self-reliance to help make your transition to independent living a little easier. We’ll look at the why behind each skill (If you know how a dishwasher is meant to work, then you understand why you load it a certain way), learn how good habits like meal planning and yard maintenance can save you money, and even discuss sleeper skills like punctuality, please and thank you, and the secret to a good handshake. Supply Fee: $10
