Sociology
Grades
8th-12th
Sociology is centered on the behavior of people in groups, specifically how people relate to one another and influence each other’s behaviors. Topics include socialization, social change, and collective behavior among many others. A specific focus will be spent on understanding what culture is and how it impacts our interactions with others. Class will be primarily based in classroom activities and discussions. Occasionally a “flipped classroom” approach will be used where students do reading or watch a video outside of class to introduce concepts, while class time is spent on activities to better understand and apply those concepts. Time outside of class should take no more than 1 hour per week.
