Science (MAP)
2nd, 3rd-4th, 5th-6th
Grades
This 45 minute science class on Mondays will cover your child's core science for the year. All elementry and middle school classes will be studying the concepts and ideas of chemistry, but at age-appropriate levels.
2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes will include a general introduction to chemistry and matter from a Biblical perspective, types of matter, the building blocks of creation, compound chemistry, mixtures, Newton's laws, gravity, forms of energy (including renewable energy), sound, light and spectrum of colors, thermodynamics, electricity, magnetism, simple machines and much more. Hands-on activities abound! Children will make smoke bombs, lava lamps and even create a periodic table from sugar cookies (YUM!).
5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th will be using God's Design for Chemistry and Ecology. In this class, students will learn all about matter—the stuff that makes up the universe God created. Learn how to measure the properties of solids, liquids, and gases and the process of classification. They will learn about the properties of ecosystems as they study 16 different ecosystems and the plants and animals that live and interact in them. Finally, students will study properties of atoms & molecules, the basics of the periodic table, chemical reactions, and biochemistry.
Class time will be used for instruction and experiments and at-home work will be assigned through Google Classrooms. Teachers will provide grades and feedback throughout the semester, and final grades will be issued in December and May.
Brandy Ferris will teach the 2nd -4th grade students; Mandy Cowart will teach the 5th-6th grade students.
